Doing laundry isn’t exactly our favoured task. Bigger families know how many loads a week need to be washed so that everyone has clean clothes to wear. Especially if you have a smaller laundry room or you just can’t seem to organize it well, it can quickly become complete chaos.

But since we spend so much time in the laundry room, we might as well make it a little bit more functional. This will help make our life easier and have everything we need at hand when laundry time comes.

Install Laundry Room Cabinets for Easier Organisation

We all need kitchen cabinets, right? Well, having laundry room cabinets is as helpful. You can keep all of the supplies in place and you’ll have more space for folding, ironing, and keeping washed and unwashed clothes. There are many different types of laundry room cabinets for you to choose from and make your laundry room more functional and practical.

You can go for a laundry sink cabinet which is a cabinet with a utility sink on top. Sinks can be of great help for pre-soaking and washing certain delicate pieces of clothing by hand. But they can serve other purposes as well. You can use your skin to bathe your pet and for washing anything else that you don’t like doing in the bathroom.

    Types of Laundry Storage Cabinets

Depending on the size and configuration of the laundry room, there are different laundry cabinets you can opt for.

If you have plenty of space on the floor, you can get base cabinets for the floor that have countertops and are a somewhat more permanent solution. However, they can be easily damaged in case of a flood.

Besides base cabinets, there are single or mobile cabinets that are more suitable for smaller laundry rooms and can be easily moved around to fit any available space.

You can also install wall cabinets – they are the perfect solution when floor space is a problem. This way, you’ll keep the floor uncluttered and use all of the extra space on the wall for storage. If your laundry room is bigger, you can use a mix of more types of cabinets for greater efficiency.

Cabinets are made from various materials. There are metal laundry cabinets that are durable and easy to clean but may not be very aesthetically pleasing. Wooden laundry cabinets are an all-time favourite. They can come in many designs and can be made from different kinds of wood. Some may be more sensitive to water than others, so you want to look for high-quality materials that will last for a long time.

Use It for Keeping Your Ironing Board and Other Supplies

Having all of your necessary supplies in the laundry room can make the entire process easier and more convenient. If you have storage space, you can use it for all of the detergents, bleach, dryer sheets, stain and odour removers, and anything else you need for your laundry. They’ll be within reach any time you need them.

If your ironing board, clothes iron, and other supplies are in the laundry room, it will be a lot easier to get all of the clothes out of the dryer and iron everything that needs to be ironed on the spot. If you have a little bit more space, you can keep your sewing supplies in there as well.

You can keep your cleaning supplies in the laundry room too. These can be just the cleaning supplies that you need for that room but you can store all of the cleaning supplies for your home as well. Always have some paper towels for spills nearby and even hand soap if you have a sink. You can also create a place for brooms, mops, dustpans, and your vacuum cleaner.

You might want to get a stain chart and keep it there. This way, you’ll know how to handle each stain before it sets into the fabric. There are a lot of methods for removing different stains, so with a printed stain chart, you don’t have to memorise them all.

Keep Everything Neatly Organised with a Few Tricks

No matter if you have a small or bigger space, it’s useless if everything is in a jumble. You need to make sure that all the space is used wisely and in the most convenient way for you.

You can keep your washing machine and dryer next to each other or stack them. If you go with the first option, there will be space above them that can be used for wall cabinets or shelves. Also, you can decide to bridge the machine, dryer, and cabinets by installing a countertop over them. If you choose to stack them, you’ll have more space on the sides.

Putting the machine and dryer on a pedestal is a great way to make room for a few drawers under them that you can use for storage or for placing baskets for sorting laundry.

Besides cabinets, you can create an open space and add shelves. Shelves are ideal for neatly stacking some bamboo towels and other linen. Place some plastic or wicker baskets on them and fix rods underneath the shelves for drying or hanging clothes directly from the dryer.

Other things that you could do in the laundry room to make it look nice and tidy are installing a wall-mounted ironing board and a pull-out drying rack for the clothes that can’t go into the dryer. With this, you’ll have a functional space that you’ll be happy to use.
