Attention Campers, It’s Time for a Mountain Camping Trip

My kids are cartoon freaks. I mean, I know all kids love cartoons, but they are literally obsessed with them. My son started building a laboratory just like Dexter, my daughter believed she had superpowers like the Powerpuff girls and they both started looking for monsters in the neighbourhood with our family dog, inspired by the great Scooby Doo cartoon. I guess you get the point. So three months ago I let them watch this interesting cartoon called Camp Lazlo that instantly became their new all time favourite show on air. They became scouts exactly two weeks after watching the cartoon and were so eager to visit the mountains.

And that’s what I decided we’ll do. We arranged a camping trip to the mountain together with my best friend and her three kids. You can’t imagine their excitement! They started packing their bags a week before the trip and learned all the songs that Lazlo and his friends were singing around the campfire. I have to admit, I was also very excited. I started looking for recipes on the internet, started reading articles about camping and tried to hide my impatience from the kids as much as I could (after all, I’m a grown up).

After I made all those sandwiches, soups and other meals (that honestly were too much for a three-day trip), I realised we didn’t have the one thing we’ll need most for the food – a portable fridge! OMG, panic mode – on. Luckily, I have someone to rely on in such situations when I can no longer think because of panic. Naturally, I called my husband to help me. A few hours later, the much awaited solution was in the back of his car. Ah, he’s the best.

He had bought a portable camping fridge that was big enough to store all the food I prepared for the trip. It was plastic and easy to carry around. We only had to power it at home for ten hours and we were good to go. Of course it came with a spare battery that was durable enough to last for three days. So when everything was ready and the portable camping fridge was filled up with juices, fruit and sandwiches, we were ready to hit the road.

I have to tell you, I felt like a little child all over again the moment we stepped foot on the mountain. This trip brought me back so many memories from my childhood camping days that I even remembered the smell of the melting marshmallows that we ate while listening to spooky stories. We set up the tent, lighted the fire, sat around the fire and munched on the delicious food from the portable camping fridge. Ah, the delights of the simple life!
