We all know how important water is for our bodies. It’s the No.1 nutrient which can heal as it performs vital functions such as keeping our blood vessels and blood clean, protecting spinal cord, joints and tissue, removing waste and toxins, etc.

Thanks to many campaigns launched to inspire people to drink more water, we’re becoming more aware of just how essential drinking water regularly is for our bodies. Hence, many of us have become inseparable from our water bottles. And that’s great, but here’s the problem – we’re throwing away billions of single-use water bottles every year and only a percentage of them is actually being recycled – the rest ends up in landfills or in our waterways.

When we Aussies, were first introduced to bottled water in the late 1980s, majority of us tough it was a joke – why pay when we could get water for free? Fast-forward to the present and I guess the joke is on us, given the fact that we have spent up to $2 billion dollars on bottled water in 2015. And this trend of paying more per liter for water than for milk or petrol is showing no signs of slowing down. The solution? Reusable water bottles.

Switching to reusable water bottles not only minimizes your carbon footprint, but can also help you save money. In fact, an average person can save hundreds of dollars over the course of several years.

Also referred to as sports water bottles, reusable bottles, especially the ones made out of stainless steel, have become popular in the 21st century when various research studies showed the disadvantages of bottled water. Another reason why majority of people buy sports water bottles made from stainless steel is Bisphenol A (BPA). Despite the fact that many studies have reported a clear link between BPA and health issues, BPA can still be found in many plastic sports water bottles. This is not the case with stainless steel bottles – they are 100% BPA-free.

Moreover, people buy sports water bottles made from stainless steel because they keep beverages hot or cold longer and more importantly, they don’t retain flavours like bottles made from plastic. Simply put, whatever you fill your bottle with, be it homemade ice tea, coffee or pure water, you won’t end up with weird-tasting beverage. All you need to do is give it a good rinse with detergent and hot water after each use.

But even with all the benefits reusable sports bottles offer, many people still buy bottled water. They use “My mornings are hectic” as an excuse, when it’s really all about breaking an old and developing a new habit. If you give it a try, your new sports bottle will soon be part of your personal style as much as your other accessories are.
