If you have enrolled your princess for ballet classes, you have done a great job. Learning ballet comes with several major benefits. Your little one will learn more than the traditional techniques of ballet as ballet lessons aid in fostering a positive self-image and teach grace, poise, self-discipline, and self-confidence and can set your child up for success later in life. That being said, there is a lot to love but also a lot to question about putting your child in ballet for the first time. One of those questions is what she should wear.

Wearing the appropriate attire helps your little dancer understand that she is attending a structured class and develop the right mindset. The outfit is also making sure that she is appropriately covered. But before making any purchase it’s advisable to check with the school’s teacher in order to find out what they recommend. The studio may have a strict dress code or it may be more relaxed.

    Leotards

This is the most common apparel for ballet dancers and looks like a one-piece bathing suit that is form-fitting, as tight clothing is best for dancing. Since leotards can give a more classical look and are typically worn by older dancers. However, you can still buy a couple of leotards, a long-sleeved one for instance would be perfect for when it’s chilly, while a camisole leotard would be appropriate for the warmer months.

A tutu is a dress worn as a costume in a ballet performance, often with an attached bodice. It may be made of fabric such as muslin, silk, tulle, gauze, or nylon. But the ballet tutu isn’t necessarily reserved just for the stage. Wearing one during rehearsals can help deal with many challenges as your little one learns the choreography. One of the most popular styles is the pancake tutu which has different net layers. The ballet tutu is also perfect for pre-school classes as there are lots of fun designs available that incorporate frills, bows, and glitter. They are tiny and very cute and can transform small ballerinas into swans or sleeping beauties.

    Ballet Shoes

Ballet shoes provide support and comfort for the dancer and can also assist with technique and alignment. When choosing ballet shoes for your child, make sure they provide perfect fit – allowing for growing room as with daily shoes is not recommended. They need to be close fit so that your child doesn’t risk tripping. Ballet shoes are traditionally available in leather satin and canvas, but recently glittery ballet shoes have gained popularity and they are perfect for small learners.
